Kolasin Parking Garage, Montenegro.

ASC + IGNACIO AGUILERA

This project was worked up in partnership with Ignacio Aguilera. Our approach to this difficult challenge —a narrow, stepy urban plot, plus a high number of parking lots— was somewhere in between a completely pragmatic parking garage and, in the other hand, moderated landscape operations, to comply with the mixed-use programs briefed and its civic presence.

A parking garage can be more than the first idea that comes to our mind. Specifically for Kolasin, it should act as a gateway for all, those who live in and those who visit the outstanding region.

What does it exactly mean that ‘it can be more’ is the question we try to answer.

More about K.P.G. ∵

Built-in aluminum planters on the edges of each Reinforced Concrete slab, copy the slight curvatures of the last. Without losing parking spaces, the image of the building merges with the surroundings, respecting the beauty of the small and charming village. Also, the rooftop welcomes visitors gently. Both journeys to it (from the lower avenue level and from the higher city center corner) are generously dimensioned: sidewalks, large staircases, large ramps and 2 sightseeing elevators.

In specific, the rooftop —pitched between 2 and 5%— acts as a buffer regarding rainwater and snow. On it, two simple but problem-solver mass timber pavilions welcome visitors. The long distance views, the outdoor and the indoor sensations, are calmly enabled within this simple geometry.
