About

A Campo Traviesa (ACT) is a young and small firm based in Brazil.

Our practice spans architecture, woodworking, urbanism and objects design, having received international awards in all these scales.

We help private clients, governments and partners to co-unveil new solutions that contribute to improve the way we build and live on Earth.

Both design and craft drive our approach.

Our expertises encompasses crafting custom designed furniture, cabinets and small timber structures, as part of a holistic understanding of disciplines.

Our name —approximately equivalent to "trailblazer" and "road-less mode"— synthetizes its essence:

Co-discovering new paths to achieve different results in how we build, maintain and relate with natural and human preexistences.

Furthermore, in Spanish, a campo traviesa expression draws key connotations: a pradera's raw smell can almost be felt.

Atelier

Disciplines that shape our physical spaces are intertwined, at all scales.

In the past years we adopted the approach known as design-build studio for some of our xs and small-scale timber completed works.

We partner leading designers that provide outstanding and responsible indoor spaces for forward-thinking clients, caring about full Life Cycle impacts.

In specific, cabinets and structures doable to our current workshop size, receive international standards assessments, being the first execution service in Brazil that includes it.

It enables end-to-end quality control. Also, avoiding varied impacts often neglected at source and for users: toxic and processed ultra-artificial surfaces they breath and deal with daily.

Since 2016 we especialize in crafting with solid timber, varied steels and natural fabrics. We avoid as much as possible, multi-toxic and negative impact MDFs. Stainless steel, reclaimed timber and other customized solutions are the materials we aim to balance regarding durability, expression and recyclability.
