GARAGE TO OFFICE CONVERSION
In this early-stage renovation for a private client (a marketing company), I was in charge of the financial aspects, design, contractor biding and control, coordination, furniture design and as-built documental archive.
Despite the small area (14m2) it was a difficult task that taught several things. In less than one month and with creative solutions to keep the numbers as a low-cost renovation (below 6 thousand dollars of materials and workforce) this humble work reused a garage room in bad conditions. Services included wiring electricity under the wooden new floor, walls and above ceiling. Included the slim twin desktop-tables design, giving the users the option to unite them in the middle of this narrow space.
This 15 m2 interior renovation service covered all aspects, from design, cost estimation, management, contractors’ supervision, etc., including 2 twin desks’ design.
The budget was very tight, so the project simplified the geometry as much as possible. As a result, ‘empty’ spaces that the simple geometry left behind, were taken back as cabinets or storage space.
Local eucalyptus timber provides certain warmth to the space and was deemed cost-convenient in mid/long terms. In the narrow space, narrow twin desks allow adaptive use of it, bringing them together at the center or separating them as working stations near both walls.
